MDA Muscle Walk and our 2nd annual Cupcake Eating Contest!
Cupcakes for a Good Cause
The Second Annual Cupcake Eating Contest to Benefit Muscular Dystrophy is being held at a local cupcake shop.
New Orleans, Louisiana — The Kupcake Factory will hold its Second Annual Cupcake Eating Contest on Saturday, March 9 at 11:30 a.m. to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association’s (MDA) Muscle Walk, which will be held at Zephyr Field that morning.
Participants in the Cupcake Eating Contest will be handed 20 Kupcake Factory cupcakes and given five minutes to consume as many as they can. The first place winner will receive endless bragging rights, a t-shirt, and two dozen regular-sized cupcakes given by The Kupcake Factory for their next birthday or celebration. A $15 Kupcake Factory gift card will be given to the second place winner, and a Kupcake Factory t-shirt will be given to the third place winner. Individual candidates pay $25, while company-sponsored contestants pay $50. MDA will receive the profits from participant registration. Contestants can register at any of The Kupcake Factory’s four stores (Uptown, Old Metairie, Veterans, and Kenner) or online at The Kupcake Factory’s page on MDA’s website by Wednesday, March 6.
“MDA’s mission is near and dear to my heart because I’ve had relatives affected by this disease,” Claudia Melgar, owner of The Kupcake Factory, said. “This is our second year hosting this contest to support MDA, and we are thrilled that all of the proceeds will be donated to the organization because it has been such a great resource for our family.”
MDA’s Muscle Walk registration will begin at 8:30 a.m., and activities will begin about 9 a.m., prior to the Cupcake Eating Contest. Muscle Walk volunteers will lead visitors through interactive craft stalls, and the event will feature appearances from the New Orleans Saints, the New Orleans Zephyrs’ Boudreaux and Clotile, and the New Orleans Voodoo’s Bones and Mojo.
